Your domain is the address customers type, the end of every email you send, and something you will keep for years. Egyptian businesses usually choose between an international domain such as .com and an Egyptian one such as .com.eg or .eg. Each has its place, and the rules for Egyptian domains are stricter than most people expect.

Two-letter .eg names and academic extensions such as .edu.eg cost more and have their own rules. Egyptian domains are also not reserved instantly: the request is reviewed against the registration conditions first.
How to register a .com.eg domain
- Check that the name is available with an accredited registrar.
- Prepare a copy of the commercial register, the company tax card and the ID of the person applying.
- Submit the request and pay the registration fee.
- Wait for the review. Once approved, point the domain to your hosting.
- Put a reminder in your calendar for the renewal date.
Choosing a good name
- Short and easy to spell when you say it on the phone.
- No hyphens or numbers unless they are part of your brand.
- Use the English spelling of your brand that customers already know.
- Check that the same name is free on Facebook and Instagram.
- Avoid names close to another company’s trademark.
Make sure the domain is yours
Whoever registers your domain should register it in your company name, and you should have access to the account where it is managed. Many businesses in Egypt have lost their domain because a freelancer or agency registered it under their own name and then disappeared, or because a renewal was missed.
What you need after the domain
A domain on its own does nothing. To use it you need hosting for the website, and ideally business email on the same domain, such as sales@yourcompany.com, so your emails look as professional as your website.
